Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the best time of year to visit Bar Harbor?

Every time of year has something special to offer in Bar Harbor and in Acadia National Park. May and June offer the best deals since it is just before the peak season, but it is still a beautiful time to travel to our area. July and August offer the most predictable warm weather and many activities to do, September offers a calm and cool air after the busiest season has passed and October is known for brisk air and gorgeous foliage. It really depends on what you are looking for in your stay!

What if I arrive to Yellow House Inn after check in times (3-5pm)?

This is not a problem. Please let us know in advance that you plan to, or are unexpectedly, arriving past check in times. We will send your check in information, and we will provide you with further information that you may need at breakfast the next morning. This stay is about you and your needs, so do whatever you need to do, and we will connect with you when we see you!

Should I rent a car for my stay?

It is recommended that you have a car to fully explore our area. That being said, the Island Explorer https://www.exploreacadia.com/, local cabs, and the central location of Yellow House Inn can allow you to also have an amazing stay without a vehicle.

*Please note that Uber, Lyft, or any kind of ride share service is not available on Mount Desert Island.

What should I pack for my trip to Maine?

Mark Twain famously said,

“If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.” This goes to say that the weather in Maine can be unpredictable. A hot day can turn into a chilly evening with little warning. We have large umbrellas available here at the Inn for you, but we would recommend some light layers for the peak of summer and heavier layers for the shoulder seasons. Also, consider what you would like to do here. If you are an adventurer, be sure to bring your bathing suit (we know the best swimming holes) and your hiking boots (we know the best trails!)
